OpenTTD Multiplayer Game Rules
Our OpenTTD servers follow the general rules of the OpenTTD community.
If you encounter any issues, you can contact an administrator or server operator via our Telegram channel. You may also share suggestions regarding gameplay balance or server settings.
If you do not follow the rules listed below, you will, at the very least, annoy other players. Players who continue unfair behavior may receive a warning or have their company reset.
Canonical Rules
Do not intentionally block access
Do not block access to industries, large areas of the map, or territories where another player is building. If you see another player building where you planned to place your own tracks or roads, do not try to interfere. Build around, above, or below their construction. If this is impossible and changing the construction would not be unreasonably expensive, you may politely ask them to make adjustments.
Do not buy excessive amounts of land
You may reserve land within a developing town (for example, to build an airport later) — but only if you already have stations there and are contributing to the town’s growth. Otherwise, it may be considered unfair play.Do not buy exclusive transport rights in another player’s town
Purchasing exclusive rights in a town where you have no presence is considered blocking access to industries and is not allowed.Do not sabotage other players’ vehicles
This includes deliberately creating railway crossings used by opponents’ road vehicles and trying to destroy them with trains. Such actions are not only unpleasant but can also harm your own company rating if your stations are nearby.
(Rail crossings are currently disabled on dos.zone servers.)Another form of sabotage is parking vehicles on roads used by others to block traffic.
Building bypasses around roads or tram lines and then blocking the route is also unfair.Currently, competitors’ roads can be used freely to avoid accidental blocking due to inattention or lack of knowledge.
Do not demolish roads in front of opponents’ depots or stations to prevent their vehicles from accessing maintenance or route points. This is considered unsportsmanlike behavior.
Do not cheat to gain an advantage
Joining another player’s company or creating secondary companies to transfer money is unacceptable, unless the original owner has clearly left the game and made their assets available to others.
(Money transfers are currently disabled on our servers.)Do not retaliate
If another player buys land around your stations or cuts you off with tracks or roads, do not “take revenge” by blocking their stations or doing similar things. Doing so only makes you part of the problem. Admins may not know who started it and may warn, kick, or ban both players.Do not steal from secondary industries
“Industry stealing” refers to taking production from industries another player already serves. This rule mainly applies to secondary and tertiary industries (factories, refineries, etc.), not to primary industries (mines, forests, oil rigs), which are open to competition.Freight from secondary or tertiary industries should be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Newcomers must ask permission from existing operators.
Despite the “no blocking” rule above, you may block access to a secondary or tertiary industry you legitimately serve if you don’t wish to share it.
Do not block primary industries
A player may occupy no more than 50% of the space around a primary industry or town.Do not steal from primary industries
If you have an alternative, it’s considered rude to use a primary industry already developed by another player.Buoys on water routes
Place buoys at least every 20 tiles to reduce server load, and more densely around sharp turns. This helps prevent timeout crashes.Do not demolish buildings near competitors’ stations
Demolishing buildings around another player’s station to reduce their passenger/mail generation is unfair.Do not destroy towns
Do not demolish parts of settlements without a valid reason (e.g., to build a station you will actually serve). Avoid excessive destruction of cities.Do not leave unused stations
A few unused stations are fine (they already hurt your company rating and increase maintenance costs), but large unused infrastructure can block city growth or prevent other players from building stations nearby.
