Early Access Program
Today we have a major and long-awaited update — we're launching Sockdrive v2, a technology designed to significantly improve the user experience for large games, especially those built for Win9x.
Currently, js-dos with this technology is in early testing, so it can only be enabled manually through the site settings.
Personalization Section
A new emulator settings section has been added to DOS.Zone. There, you can enable access to the EAP version of js-dos, as well as turn on a new feature — automatic game launch.
The new version of Sockdrive will be used if you enable the js-dos (Early Access Program) option.
Sockdrive v2
What’s new:
No more backend dependency
Thanks to the new technology, Sockdrive v2 is now a fully static resource, which makes it much harder to block. It should work even in environments where the previous version couldn’t.Full use of IndexedDB
The disk image is downloaded only once. On subsequent launches, significantly less data needs to be transferred. All games launch “on the fly” — you don’t have to wait for the full image to download. It only affects performance: the more data is cached, the faster the game runs.Local save support
Game progress is now saved in the browser’s local database. The save system is unified with the non-Sockdrive version and always triggered manually via the diskette icon, giving users full control over their data.Cloud saves continue to work as before.
Emscripten 4.0.2
The new build is compiled with the latest version of Emscripten — 4.0.2. We’re hoping for a small performance boost.
Dark Mode
js-dos and DOS.Zone now automatically switch to dark mode if it’s enabled in your system.
Popular games on home page
At the top of the section, you’ll now see the games that have received the most positive feedback.
New Games
And of course — what’s an update without new games?
